INFORMATION
RIDE2020 is a Sportsgrants non-event produced in cooperation with Creative Disruption. The current economic crisis has already closed many event companies, so we decided to try and help as many as we can stay afloat. As endurance athletes we could lose thousands of events that may never come back if we don’t help support the race directors and event organizers who put them on.
The beneficiaries of RIDE2020 are event producers and race directors across the US. We have invited hundreds of them to apply for grants ranging from $5,000 to $25,000 to be delivered within one week of the close of the RIDE2020. How much we can deliver is up to you.
The Sportsgrants Foundation is producing RIDE2020. Sportsgrants was founded in 2006 and is registered with the IRS as a 501c3 nonprofit. Sportsgrants pioneered the Non-Event, essentially gathering together athletic communities to fundraise around one activity that all the fundraisers participate in wherever they are, thus eliminating most of the traditional event expenses. For examples see: Sportsgrants on YouTube .
The RIDE2020 non-event allows fundraisers to participate by completing a 25 mile ride on the road, any indoor trainer, or any stationary bike on July 11, 2020 in one of three categories:
Competition
Competition fundraisers will be eligible for awards and prizes. There will be a $25 entry fee for the competition division to cover the cost of awards. All results in this category will be checked for accuracy.
Outdoor
Ride for fun and to keep our event producers and race directors in business.
Indoor
Do your ride on any stationary bike or trainer that can record distance and/or time.
How To Post Your Ride
There are two ways to verify your ride (except for the Competition division):
- Post a photo of your odometer to Instagram #RIDE2020
- Upload a photo to the Google Drive folder at this address: https://bit.ly/2XgiRKXcomp
Participant Awards

Dear {first}: The global pandemic that we are living through has decimated small businesses everywhere. The business of creating and producing endurance events is no exception. The predicted number of event casualties is projected to be catastrophic. • 80% of all event organizers will go out of business without support. • More than $400 million will be lost to charities from event fundraising. • 40,000 of the estimated 50,000 endurance events in the US will cease to exist. We at the Sportsgrants Foundation and Creative Disruption are pretty certain we can't stop the flood, but if endurance athletes and companies doing business in the endurance space band together, we can at least stop some of the drowning. We have created a nationwide Non Event on July 11, 2020 whose goal is to raise $1 million in order to give event organizers on the brink of collapse an opportunity to regroup by delivering grants ranging from $5,000 to $25,000 within two weeks of the Non Event. We will create and award grants as long as funds last. • First go to RIDE2020 and register as a fundraiser, or just make a donation. • If you are a fundraiser then send out a few (or a lot) of emails with a link to your fundraising page asking people to donate to your ride. • To be eligible for awards all a rider has to do is post a photo of their odometer to Instagram #RIDE2020 by July 11 and have raised at least $100. • For more detailed information go to: Sportsgrants/ride2020 While we can’t save the world, we can ease a little of the economic suffering event organizers in the US are feeling. After all, without their tireless work, those of us who participate in endurance events, and those who follow will lose the experiences and races that have shaped most of our lives. Please help us save our events and the people who worked so long and so hard to create them. Thank you,
